Basketball Recap: East Bernard Skates Past Brazos with Ease

East Bernard won against Alvarado last Saturday with 51 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The East Bernard Brahmas simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Brazos Cougars 51-23. Given the Brahmas' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 505th, while the Cougars are ranked 1405th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead East Bernard to victory, but perhaps none more so than London Cavness, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. That's the most points Cavness has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Malaya Thomas, who posted nine points along with eight boards and six steals.

East Bernard pushed their record up to 16-7 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.2 points per game. As for Brazos, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 13 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Bernard will head out to square off against Boling at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Brazos, they will venture away from home to face off against Hitchcock at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
