Two dominant players in Jayce King and Logan Laverty are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Fort Collins Lambkins will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Monarch Coyotes at 6:30 p.m. One thing working in Fort Collins' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matches.
Fort Collins scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 92-46 win over Prairie View. That looming 92-46 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Fort Collins yet this season.
King was his usual excellent self, going 8 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 44 points and 1 assist. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Fort Collins' points. Marcel Herrera was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Monarch waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with four straight wins but they left with five. They walked away with an 82-71 win over Mountain Range. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Monarch's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Evan Trujillo, who scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Trujillo has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Tyler Carlson, who scored 19 points along with four steals.
Fort Collins' victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-5. As for Monarch, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's match: Fort Collins have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 6.6 threes per game. It's a different story for Monarch, though, as they've been averaging only 6.5 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Fort Collins took their win against Monarch in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 80-60. Does Fort Collins have another victory up their sleeve, or will Monarch turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
