The Hargrave Military Academy Tigers pushed their score all the way to 61 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were dealt a 89-61 loss at the hands of Blue Ridge. While losing is never fun, Hargrave Military Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while Blue Ridge is ranked tenth).
When it comes to explaining why Hargrave Military Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Dante Kearse. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 30 points and ten rebounds. Kearse also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Javon Brooks, who scored 16 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Blue Ridge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kamren Martin led the charge by scoring 20 points along with nine rebounds and six assists. Dreylan Creasy-Quirindoongo was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Hargrave Military Academy and nudges their season record down to 7-4. As for Blue Ridge, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hargrave Military Academy will take on Eastern Mennonite at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Eastern Mennonite will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. As for Blue Ridge, they will head out on the road to square off against Virginia Episcopal School at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Virginia Episcopal School is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
