The San Tan Charter Roadrunners will challenge the Pima Roughriders at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. San Tan Charter will be looking to extend their current 15-game winning streak.
On Friday, San Tan Charter beat Lincoln Prep 10-7.
The team relied heavily on Tommy Crupi, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Tyson Scheffner was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Meanwhile, Pima fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against North Valley Christian Academy on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lions by a score of 6-5. The Roughriders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Preston Russell was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Pima: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-9-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Alder, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
San Tan Charter pushed their record up to 20-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.9 runs over those games. As for Pima, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10-1.
Pima's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: San Tan Charter hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .396. It's a different story for Pima, though, as they've only averaged .214. Will they be able to contain San Tan Charter's hitters?
San Tan Charter might still be hurting after the 19-0 loss they got from Pima when the teams last played back in February of 2022. Can the Roadrunners avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
