Isaac Cabello and Raul De Leon provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Winn. The longest such play in 5A Region IV District 29 this season, the connection resulted in 75 yards.
Del Rio extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Laredo LBJ, 45-12. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Rams.
United's dynamic duo of Derek Esparza and Terry Dalehite proved tough for Eagle Pass to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Esparza threw for 284 yards and two touchdowns and Dalehite had 86 yards receiving. Eric Corona helped United's passing attack out by catching five balls for 67 yards.
Simba Ijeoma was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 19 carries, he ran for 110 yards as United South fell to the Eagles. Teammate Cabello added to the ground attack by rushing for 79 yards.
On the ground, the Panthers' Cabello has rushed for 809 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Dalehite. The United star has 69 catches for 970 yards.
United's Dalehite needs only 30 receiving yards against Del Rio to crack 1,000 for the season.
Next week's game between Alexander and United South will feature a tantalizing aerial matchup as Aaron Swain tests his arm against Christopher Cabello's defensive ability. Alexander's Swain has thrown for 1617 yards and 15 touchdowns this year, while Cabello has racked up four interceptions for Sergio Salinas' team.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Steve Hoffman's team takes on David Sanchez's team. The Rams are in first place, while the Longhorns are in fifth place.
Eagle Pass moved up to 576 from 628 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Tom Gonzalez's team was able to make move up by beating United 26-25.
