Nogales is 2-8 against Buena since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Nogales Apaches will be playing at home against the Buena Colts at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Nogales, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 57-42 loss to Catalina Foothills. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Nogales has scored all season.
Diego Ortega put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 21 points. That was a full 50% of Nogales' points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Rafael Vasavilbaso was another key contributor, scoring four points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Buena pushed their score all the way to 66 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 75-66 to Brophy College Prep. While losing is never fun, Buena can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while Brophy College Prep is ranked 11th).
This is the second loss in a row for Nogales and nudges their season record down to 8-6. As for Buena, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.
Nogales was taken down by Buena 59-30 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Nogales was down 33-11.
