The Otay Ranch Mustangs will face off against the El Capitan Vaqueros at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Otay Ranch will be strutting in after a win while El Capitan will be coming in after a loss.
Otay Ranch is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Olympian a 12-0 shutout on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won seven in a row.
Kaylin Phillips made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Otay Ranch got a massive performance out of Venice Inguito, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Inguito a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kalina Sangalang, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Otay Ranch kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Bonita Vista hit El Capitan with a four-run fourth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vaqueros came up short against the Barons, falling 11-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Vaqueros have suffered against the Barons since March 17, 2016.
El Capitan saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sofia Simone, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Simone is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
Otay Ranch now has a winning record of 9-8-1. As for El Capitan, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
Otay Ranch was able to grind out a solid win over El Capitan in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 7-4. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Vaqueros have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
