The Westfield Blue Devils will head out on the road to challenge the Elizabeth Minutemen at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Westfield will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings (they are ranked 162nd, while Elizabeth is ranked 50th).
Last Tuesday, Westfield came up short against Oak Knoll and fell 44-33.
Elizabeth suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 63-43 walloping at the hands of New Providence. Elizabeth has struggled against New Providence recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Alani Gordon, who scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Alexandra Koon was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Westfield dropped their record down to 4-11 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Elizabeth, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-5.
Westfield couldn't quite finish off Elizabeth when the teams last played on January 4th and fell 50-48. Can Westfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
