Discovery Canyon hasn't had much luck against Air Academy recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Discovery Canyon Thunder will square off against the Air Academy Kadets at 6:00 p.m.
Discovery Canyon is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest loss since February 15, 2024 on Thursday. They came up short against Palmer Ridge, falling 59-38. The Thunder were down 42-19 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
The losing side was boosted by Addison Hulse, who posted 11 points and seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Air Academy put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their game with ease, bagging a 66-38 win over Lewis-Palmer. Given the Kadets' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Rangers are ranked 122nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Discovery Canyon better keep an eye on Tatyonna Brown. She was instrumental in Air Academy's win, going 10 for 12 on her way to 22 points and eight boards. The match was Brown's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Lydia Flowers, who went 6 of 12 en route to 14 points and five steals.
Air Academy pushed their record up to 12-0 with the victory, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.6 points per game. As for Discovery Canyon, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Discovery Canyon has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Air Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Discovery Canyon took a serious blow against Air Academy when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 81-28. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Discovery Canyon was down 39-16.
