There's no place like home for the Westminster Wolves, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against George Washington on Friday and snuck past 43-41. For Westminster, this counts as revenge for the 73-55 defeat George Washington walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.
Brooke Gomez was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 18 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Alicia Trujillo was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds.
Despite the loss, George Washington still got an impressive performance from Abryanna Alejo Grajeda, who shot 4-for-9 from deep and almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of NaQua Barnett, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, George Washington were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westminster only posted two assists.
Westminster's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-11. As for George Washington, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-12.
Westminster will be playing in front of their home fans against Mountain Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Mountain Vista is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 55.6 points per game this season. As for George Washington, they will head out on the road to take on Denver East at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
