The Killian Cougars will square off against the Miami Springs Golden Hawks at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Killian is headed into the matchup having just suffered their closest defeat since May 2, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of Cardinal Gibbons by a score of 9-7.
Killian got a good showing from Sebastian Perez, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Perez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jordan Scantlebury made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Lucas Arcaute was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Miami Springs had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Biggie as they made off with an 8-1 win. The Golden Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Magdiel Estevez made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since March 4th. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in February.
In other batting news, Roydan Perez was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Spencer Hilton also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Miami Springs always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive games.
Killian now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Miami Springs, their record is now 16-2.
Killian took their victory against Miami Springs in their previous matchup back in April of 2015 by a conclusive 9-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Killian since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
