Lorelai Stirling spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Gabriela Puntel and Calysta Salas did most of the damage at the plate: Puntel went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Salas scored a run and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. That triple was Puntel's first of the season. Serafina Kubersky was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Abington Friends was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .515. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, String Theory never let their opponents score on Thursday. They blew past Abraham Lincoln 15-0. That looming 15-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for String Theory yet this season.
Annamae Uhl was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Uhl was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Danica Divincenzo was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Savannah Iamurri, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Abington Friends pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for String Theory, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Abington Friends has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .587. However, it's not like String Theory struggles in that department as they've averaged .464. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Abington Friends couldn't quite finish off String Theory in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 and fell 6-4. Can Abington Friends avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
