Rolling Meadows took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Elgin a 15-0 shutout. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
Tony Romanacce was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Schneider, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Rolling Meadows kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elgin only managed three hits.
Meanwhile, Buffalo Grove can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over Rolling Meadows.
Griffin Kelly made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). He is becoming a predictor of Buffalo Grove's success: when he posts at least ten strikeouts the team is 2-0-1 (and 3-11-1 when he doesn't). Kelly was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-3.
In other pitching news, Conor Fitzsimmons looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Kelly wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Owen Erickson, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
