San Mateo is 3-0 against Sequoia since October of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The San Mateo Bearcats will head out on the road to face off against the Sequoia Ravens at 7:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Last Friday, San Mateo had just enough and edged Milpitas out 30-27.
Emmanuel Fitzgerald had a dynamite game for San Mateo, rushing for 171 yards and three touchdowns. Gabe Buenrostro and his 92 yards on the ground were also a key factor in San Mateo's victory.
San Mateo's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Nalesoni Fakava and his two sacks.
Sequoia fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 24-21 victory over Capuchino on Friday.
Their wins bumped San Mateo to 4-4 and Sequoia to 3-5.
Everything came up roses for San Mateo against Sequoia in their previous meeting back in October of 2021 as the squad secured a 35-6 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Sequoia's Jack Kern, who rushed for 96 yards on only seven carries, and also picked up 76 receiving yards. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for San Mateo to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
