Basketball Game Preview: Grimsley Whirlies vs. Southwest Guilford Cowboys

Grimsley is on a five-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Southwest Guilford is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Grimsley Whirlies will host the Southwest Guilford Cowboys at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Tuesday, Grimsley earned a 66-58 victory over Western Guilford.

Faizon Brandon went supernova for Grimsley, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 12 boards. What's more, Brandon also racked up five assists, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Henry Trent was another key player, putting up ten points.

Grimsley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Southwest Guilford posted their biggest win since February 19, 2024 on Thursday. They breezed by Ragsdale to the tune of 78-50. Given the Cowboys' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while the Tigers are ranked 581st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Southwest Guilford has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.3 points per game. As for Grimsley, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
