The Franklin Yellowjackets will square off against the Stagg Delta Kings at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Franklin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Franklin is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest loss since April 26, 2024 on Monday. They lost 9-2 to Rio Americano. The Yellowjackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Franklin saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sergio Campuzano, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Another was Devian Bautista, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Stagg). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Chavez a 28-0 shutout on Monday. The Delta Kings haven't had any issues with the Titans recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Michael Hutchinson and Aelias Guerrero made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Hutchinson pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Guerrero pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Hutchinson a new career-low in walks (zero). At the plate, Hutchinson scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances, while Guerrero got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Hutchinson a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Brooks, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Zachary Glatz, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5.
Stagg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .694. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Franklin now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Stagg, their win bumped their record up to 9-3.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Franklin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. However, it's not like Stagg struggles in that department as they've averaged .353. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Franklin's way against Stagg in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Franklin made off with an 11-0 victory. Does Franklin have another victory up their sleeve, or will Stagg turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
