Football Recap: South Fort Myers Comes Up Short

After flying high against Fort Myers two weeks ago, South Fort Myers came back down to earth. The Wolfpack and the Port Charlotte Pirates were almost perfectly matched up on Thursday, but the Wolfpack suffered a 29-28 loss. The defeat continues a trend for the Wolfpack in their meetings with the Pirates: they've now lost five in a row.

South Fort Myers lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Arthur Gallishaw, who rushed for 181 yards and one score. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 155 rushing yards. Jershard Benjamin also helped out with an impressive 87 receiving yards.

Logan Flaherty had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 274 yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 47 yards for Port Charlotte. That's the most rushing yards Flaherty has posted since back in November of 2024.

South Fort Myers' loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Port Charlotte, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.

Looking ahead, South Fort Myers will look to defend their home field on the 3rd against Cypress Lake at 7:30 p.m. As for Port Charlotte, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Dunbar at 7:30 p.m. on the 10th.
