After a string of three wins, The Granite Hills Eagles''s good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They and Helix were almost perfectly matched up, but Granite Hills suffered an agonizing 39-38 defeat. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Friday (31), Granite Hills still had to take the loss.
Helix's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jordan Roa led the charge by throwing for 403 yards and three touchdowns. Roa is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Braylon Ross was another key contributor, picking up 189 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Granite Hills' defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Helix, the victory was the fourth in a row for they, bringing their record for this year to 4-4.
Granite Hills will head out on the road to face off against Grossmont at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Grossmont is on a three-game streak of home wins, Granite Hills a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field. Helix will take on Steele Canyon at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Steele Canyon comes in on a streak of failing to score more than seven points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
