Gibbs and Farragut are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. The Eagles will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Admirals at 6:00 p.m. Gibbs is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
Gibbs is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Tennessee's top teams: Halls, who was ranked seventh at the time (Gibbs was ranked third). The Eagles narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Red Devils 3-2. The game snapped a strange streak: the last six times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
The team relied heavily on Shelby Williams, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Farragut never let their opponents score on Monday. They put the hurt on William Blount with a sharp 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Admirals, who have now won 16 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Hallie Grace Johnson made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since April 3rd.
In other batting news, Elsa Morrison was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Logan Jameson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Farragut always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as William Blount only posted an OBP of .000.
Gibbs pushed their record up to 28-3 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Farragut, their victory bumped their record up to 23-9-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gibbs hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .423. However, it's not like Farragut struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
