Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Artesia). They put the hurt on the Oxford Academy Patriots with a sharp 28-6 victory on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Alea Medina was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played.
In other batting news, Artesia let Paulina Nava and Kaleyse Foster run wild. Nava went a perfect 6-for-6 with four stolen bases, seven RBI, and three runs, while Foster fired off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 4-for-5. Those seven RBI gave Nava a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Khloe Loquellano, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-6.
Artesia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Artesia now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Oxford Academy, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 14-4.
Coming up, Artesia will square off against Glenn at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pioneers are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Oxford Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 13-9 victory against Portola on the 10th.
