The East Central Hornets will square off against the Greene County Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. East Central is coming into the match hot, having won their last 12 games.
While East Central's victory against Vancleave wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Hornets skirted past the Bulldogs 4-2. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 27, 2024, but that streak is no more.

East Central saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Breyona Tanner, who went 3-for-4 with one double. Those three hits gave Tanner a new career-high.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Greene County duked it out with Northeast Jones on Friday. The Wildcats narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Tigers 11-9. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Addie Tungett made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Tungett was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Riley Kate Byrd, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Amiyah Garrett was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
Greene County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Greene County's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for East Central, their record is now 18-4.
Both East Central and Greene County just can't seem to miss. The Hornets have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Greene County struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.7 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
East Central couldn't quite finish off Greene County when the teams last played back in March and fell 6-4. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
