III Section I recap September 17, 2013
Peoria took down Coconino 34-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Darius Aguirre ran for 58 yards and caught 4 passes for 88 yards in the win.
The Panthers made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,007 from 3,564. The advance stemmed from a 34-0 victory over the Panthers last week.
Marcus Coffey was a key player and the best on defense this week as Sunrise Mountain fell to Deer Valley. The 5-foot-9 senior.
Corey Brown was the best running back in III Section I this week. In 18 carries, he ran for 95 yards as the Mustangs beat Coconino. Nick Haleman also contributed to the rushing game with 13 yards on the ground.
Aguirre was the best wideout in the league this week as the Panthers defeated George Moate's team. Stefan Smith helped Peoria's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 26 yards.
Kooper Ray put up the best numbers through the air as Goldwater lost to Kingman. He finished with 11 completions for 173 yards and 2 touchdowns. Ray's favorite target this week was Tyler Nance, who caught 3 passes for 74 yards.
6-foot-1 quarterback Kade Greenhalgh of Greenway is the league leader in passing yards this season with 567. He has also thrown 9 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Aguirre. The Peoria star has 16 catches for 299 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Peoria takes on second place Greenway. Last week, Peoria bested the Panthers, while the Demons lost to Agua Fria.
Two of the top units in III Section I will face off this week when Greenway takes on the Panthers. KJ Anthony's team's offense has racked up 101 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while Peoria has allowed only 14 on the year.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when the Panthers' Aguirre goes up against the Demons' Alton Hardy.
There should be lots of points scored when Greenway and Peoria face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Demons comes in having scored 101 this season, while the Panthers have scored 84. Greenway scored 20 points last week as it lost to the Owls.
