The Cuba Rams suffered their biggest loss since December 20, 2023 on Friday. They took a serious blow against Mesa Vista, falling 76-49. Cuba has struggled against Mesa Vista recently, as their game on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Cuba lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Maliyah Herrera, who scored 13 points along with five steals. Brylee Cayaditto was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Cuba smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mesa Vista only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Mesa Vista's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tana Lopez, who scored 25 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Brittni Suazo, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals.
Cuba has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Mesa Vista, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 12-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cuba won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Newcomb at 2:15 p.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Newcomb focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday. Mesa Vista's road trip will continue as they head out to face Santa Fe Indian at 6:00 p.m. on January 13th. Santa Fe Indian is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
