Heartland II recap Oct. 16, 2012
Lewisburg extended the longest winning streak in Heartland II this week by beating Warrior Run, 51-0. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Lewisburg was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in the league. Earlier in the week, Jeremy Winn's team defeated the Defenders 51-0.
Mount Carmel's dynamic duo of Zach Wasilewski and Rob Varano proved tough for North Schuylkill to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Wasilewski threw for 315 yards and four touchdowns and Varano had 227 yards receiving. Elijah Duran helped Mount Carmel's passing attack out by catching three balls for 51 yards.
Kyle Datres was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 122 yards on 10 carries as Loyalsock Township. defeated the Spartans. Jimmy Webb also contributed to the rushing game with 75 yards on the ground.
5-foot-11 quarterback Jordan Thivierge of Central Columbia is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1220. He has also thrown nine touchdowns. On the ground, Mount Carmel's Luke Klingerman has rushed for 851 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Varano. The Mount Carmel star has 31 catches for 531 yards.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Bluejays take on the Green Dragons. Central Columbia has allowed 85 points this season, while Lewisburg has given up 87. Jason Hippenstiel's team allowed 6 points last week as it topped Central Mountain.
Carmen DeFrancesco's team moved up to 112 from 168 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The RED TORNADOES were able to make the jump by besting North Schuylkill 44-41.
