The Ocracoke Dolphins's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by Cape Hatteras 56-10. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Ocracoke in their matchups with the Hurricanes: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Ocracoke saw an underclassman step up: Heidy Lora scored six points.
Cape Hatteras' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Abby O'Neal, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds. O'Neal hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Philips, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Ocracoke's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-11. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 14.5 points per game. As for Cape Hatteras, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ocracoke will square off against the Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cape Hatteras, they will head out on the road to challenge the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Columbia is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
