They walked away with a 48-39 victory over John Battle on Friday. That's another feather in the cap for Gate City, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
John Battle lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Olivia Stevens, who scored eight points along with three steals. Kara Kelley was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds.
Gate City's win bumped their record up to 4-7. As for John Battle, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
Gate City will be playing in front of their home fans against Abingdon at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Abingdon presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Gate City in Virginia (Abingdon is ranked 32nd, while Gate City is ranked 190th). As for John Battle, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Virginia High at 5:00 p.m. on January 27th. Virginia High is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
