After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Richmond, the Union Pines Vikings were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They walked away with a 51-44 victory over Hoke County. That's another feather in the cap for Union Pines, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Union Pines' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mikayla Dunn led the charge by scoring 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dunn has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Corryn McCutchen, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Karmen Campbell and Dashinedria Riggins certainly did their best on Wednesday to try and avoid the loss. Campbell scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three blocks, while Riggins dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Campbell scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Julianna Macy, who scored four points along with two blocks.
Even though they lost, Hoke County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. This was only their ninth loss (out of 12 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Union Pines now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Hoke County, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost nine of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season.
Union Pines will be playing at home against Southern Lee at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Southern Lee is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Hoke County, they will head out on the road to challenge Pinecrest at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
