The team relied heavily on Rebecca Lanz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Miranda Hanson, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Richmond-Burton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Sandwich made sure to put some runs up on the board against Harvard on Monday. The Indians put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 12-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Abigail Johnson was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Johnson was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Coraline Stevens and Audryna Brain did most of the damage at the plate: Stevens got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Brain got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave Brain a new career-high. Kayden Corneils was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Sandwich's victory bumped their record up to 13-10. As for Richmond-Burton, they now have a winning record of 12-11.
Richmond-Burton's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's matchup. The Rockets have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Sandwich, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Richmond-Burton continue to outrun the ball?
