After flying high against the Zanesville Blue Devils on Tuesday, the Watkins Memorial Warriors came back down to earth. Watkins Memorial fell 33-25 to Newark Catholic on Friday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Watkins Memorial has scored all season.
Newark Catholic was led to victory by Kylie Gibson and Sophie Chard Peloquin. Gibson scored nine points along with seven rebounds and six steals, while Chard Peloquin scored 13 points along with five rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Gibson has scored at least 25% of Newark Catholic's points.
Watkins Memorial's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Newark Catholic, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Watkins Memorial will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Licking Valley at 7:15 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Newark Catholic will be staying on the road on Sunday to face off against Fisher Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on December 17th.
