The Central Dragons will challenge the Northern Cambria Colts at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Central sitting on six straight wins and Northern Cambria on nine.
Central had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Central Cambria on Friday. The Dragons were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Red Devils. Considering the Dragons have won four contests by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Mason Byler made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Troy McNichol, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April of 2024. Lukas Black was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Northern Cambria hadn't done well against Bishop Guilfoyle recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Colts put the hurt on the Marauders with a sharp 13-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Colts, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Levi Czar looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched.
At the plate, Northern Cambria let Zach Lockard and Ty Dumm run wild. Lockard went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, while Dumm scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Nathan Fry, who scored a run and stole a base.
Northern Cambria kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive matches.
Central's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Northern Cambria, their victory bumped their record up to 9-0.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Central has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Northern Cambria struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Central's way against Northern Cambria in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Central made off with a 13-1 win. Will the Dragons repeat their success, or do the Colts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
