Baseball Recap: Woodland Takes Down Southern Aroostook in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Woodland had no trouble coming through when it counted. They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Southern Aroostook Warriors on Tuesday. Considering the Dragons have won eight contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Liam O'Neill and Gaige Farrar were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, O'Neill pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Farrar pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. O'Neill has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, O'Neill went 1-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Farrar went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three runs gave O'Neill a new career-high.

In other batting news, Isaac Downing was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Nicholas, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Woodland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern Aroostook only posted an OBP of .391.

Woodland's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Southern Aroostook, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.

Looking ahead, Woodland will take on Bangor Christian on Thursday. The Patriots will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Dragons surely won't give up without a fight. Southern Aroostook does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
