Baseball Recap: Midland Takes a Loss

Midland fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rockets by a score of 4-3. The Timberwolves were not able to make up for their defeat to the Rockets from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Dom Rosa was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Midland is 7-2 when Rosa posts two or more runs, but 4-8-3 otherwise.

Rosa wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Owen LaRoe, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Zack Schwanke, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Midland's loss dropped their record down to 11-10-3. As for Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-9 record this season.

Midland didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 16-0 defeat against Dwight on the 7th. Hopefully Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn paid attention to the Timberwolves' game: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Timberwolves at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
