They secured a 57-51 W over Fortune Early College. Given Kennedy's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 198th, while Fortune Early College is ranked 573rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kennedy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Taylor Shirley out in front who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks. Those four blocks set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Dondre Prothro, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
When it comes to explaining why Fortune Early College lost, one person who can't be blamed is Omarion Davis. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for him. Jabari Pugh was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Kennedy's victory bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Fortune Early College, they have fallen quite a ways from their 21-9 record last season and are now at 5-10.
Kennedy will head out on the road to face off against Natomas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Natomas is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 63.8 points per game. As for Fortune Early College, they will face off against Saint Mary's at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Saint Mary's will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
