Gulf Coast has gone a perfect 9-0 against Golden Gate recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Sharks will square off against the Titans at 7:00 p.m. Gulf Coast hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.
Gulf Coast came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 8-2 to Naples.
Gulf Coast got a good showing from Jack Johnson, who struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). Johnson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jackson Geiger was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Golden Gate had no problem doing just that on Monday. They came out on top against the Jaguars by a score of 12-2 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The Titans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Shae Weeks spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 17 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Marlon Cancio, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Eli Rodriguez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Gulf Coast's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 12-12. As for Golden Gate, their win bumped their record up to 6-15.
Gulf Coast took their victory against Golden Gate in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 9-0 score. Do the Sharks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Titans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
