After three games on the road, West Union is heading back home. They will take on the Houlka Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. West Union knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 28 matchups -- so hopefully Houlka likes a good challenge.
Last Thursday, West Union didn't have too much trouble with Itawamba Agricultural on the road as they won 68-51. Given West Union's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Itawamba Agricultural is ranked 112th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, even though Smithville scored an imposing 56 points on Tuesday, Houlka still came out on top. Houlka strolled past Smithville with points to spare, taking the game 72-56. The victory was just what Houlka needed coming off of a 59-34 loss in their prior contest.
Elijah Kilpatrick was nothing short of spectacular: he scored 20 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Neal Moore, who scored 12 points along with two steals and two blocks.
West Union is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 17 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season. As for Houlka, their victory bumped their record up to 12-14.
West Union strolled past Houlka in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a score of 70-55. Does West Union have another victory up their sleeve, or will Houlka turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
