The Manchester Greyhounds will square off against the Peebles Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Manchester is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Manchester fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Huntington on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 9-6 to the Huntsmen. The Greyhounds' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Luke Applegate put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Clayton Colvin and Carson Inman stepped up to the plate in a big way. Colvin went 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Inman got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Peebles earned a 5-1 victory over Northwest on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Indians.
Lukas Schmus spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Bo Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Peebles' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 6-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Nash Grooms, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Manchester's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Peebles, their win bumped their record up to 12-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Manchester has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Peebles struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Manchester skirted past Peebles 6-5 when the teams last played back in April. Will the Greyhounds repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
