ConVal hasn't had much luck against Hollis-Brookline recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Cougars will head out to challenge the Cavaliers at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
ConVal was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Lebanon on Friday. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Raiders. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Cougars have posted against the Raiders since May 2, 2016.
Isaac Clough was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Henry Hartwell was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Degan Wing also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Hollis-Brookline put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Pelham 12-1. While the Cavaliers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Ian Sinclair looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Matthew Bergin, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Tyler Gryniewicz was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Hollis-Brookline was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .393 or higher in four consecutive matches.
ConVal's record is now 2-4. As for Hollis-Brookline, their record now sits at 5-0.
ConVal couldn't quite get it done against Hollis-Brookline in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 9-4. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
