It was a good run, but the Spoto Spartans unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They were the victim of a rough 58-32 loss at the hands of Sickles. Spoto was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-10.
Despite the defeat, Spoto saw an underclassman step up: Jayla Griffin scored 14 points.
Sickles was led to victory by Beckham Hockley and Kelsey Sharpe. Hockley scored 17 points, while Sharpe almost dropped a triple-double on 12 points, ten assists, and nine steals. Hockley hasn't dropped below 15points for 13 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Rye'keriyah Newton, who scored six points along with nine rebounds.
Spoto's defeat dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Sickles, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spoto will take on Gaither at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Gaither focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 43 on Tuesday. As for Sickles, they will be playing at home against Strawberry Crest at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Strawberry Crest will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 426th, while Sickles is ranked 75th).
