While it was all tied up 13-13 at halftime, the West Babylon Eagles were not quite the William Floyd Colonials's equal in the second half on Tuesday. West Babylon took a 40-25 bruising from William Floyd. West Babylon was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as William Floyd apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2022.
West Babylon's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avery Vergano, who scored 10 points along with 8 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Maucere, who scored 5 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals.
Among those leading the charge was Kayla Gilmore, who scored 18 points along with 7 rebounds. The match was her third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Chloe Campbell, who scored 8 points along with 15 rebounds and 4 blocks.
West Babylon's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for William Floyd, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
West Babylon will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on East Rockaway at 12:00 p.m. on December 27th. As for William Floyd, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Sachem North at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
