When it comes to explaining why Santa Cruz Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jianna Lopez. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 51.9% of Santa Cruz Valley's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Even though they lost, Santa Cruz Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Augustine Catholic only pulled down 14 offensive rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Augustine Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Megan Callahan, who scored 21 points along with eight assists and six steals. Kiersten Ball was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 assists.
Santa Cruz Valley has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season. As for St. Augustine Catholic, they pushed their record up to 12-6 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Santa Cruz Valley will take on the Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Augustine Catholic, they will head out on the road to take on the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Tanque Verde is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
