The Owen County Rebels will face off against the Ludlow Panthers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Owen County is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Henry County hit Owen County with a five-run fifth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rebels took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats.
Owen County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brody Hearn, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Ludlow never let their opponents score on Thursday. They blew past Holmes 10-0. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Parker Trenkamp was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Ludlow is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-6 otherwise. Trenkamp was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Mays, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. He has become a key player for Ludlow: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-5 otherwise. Travis Turner was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Ludlow always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Ludlow's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Owen County, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Owen County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Ludlow struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Owen County's way against Ludlow when the teams last played back in March, as Owen County made off with an 11-1 win. Do the Rebels have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
