Basha and Corona del Sol are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. The Bears will take on the Aztecs at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Corona del Sol will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Basha extended their winning streak to four on Friday. The Bears blew past Tolleson 9-3. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.
Josie Karpenski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Basha got a big performance out of Vaeh Luna, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Lainey Clapp also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Basha always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tolleson only posted an OBP of .185.
Meanwhile, Corona del Sol waltzed into their game on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 16-6 victory.
Jami Sheehan and Ellison Locke did most of the damage at the plate: Sheehan scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4, while Locke went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Sheehan continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Miquela Tammaro, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one double.
Basha pushed their record up to 16-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Corona del Sol, their record is now 11-6.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Basha has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .472. However, it's not like Corona del Sol struggles in that department as they've averaged .433. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Basha's way against Corona del Sol in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Basha made off with a 10-0 win. Do the Bears have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Aztecs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
