After flying high against the Eastern Eagles last Monday, the Russell Red Devils came back down to earth. Russell received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 72-58 to Fleming County. While losing is never fun, Russell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 152nd, while Fleming County is ranked 26th).
Despite the defeat, Russell saw an underclassman step up: Caleb Rimmer dropped a double-double on 23 points and 15 rebounds. Those 23 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Neel, who scored 14 points.
Russell now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Fleming County, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.
Russell will take on Spring Valley in a holiday battle at 4:45 p.m. on Friday at. One thing working in Spring Valley's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. Fleming County will be home for the holidays to greet Catholic at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Catholic knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Fleming County likes a good challenge.
