The St. Petersburg Green Devils will be playing at home against the Gibbs Gladiators at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Petersburg will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
St. Petersburg can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent game on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Hollins 45-6 at home. St. Petersburg's offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Jeff Jones was his usual excellent self, rushing for 216 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. Jones hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for nine straight games. Ben Cubito made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, Gibbs had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They snuck past Boca Ciega with a 12-7 victory on Friday.
St. Petersburg's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 Hollins and 4-5 Osceola (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 33.3% over those games). As for Gibbs, their victory bumped their record up to 1-7.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: St. Petersburg commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 5.7 touchdowns per game. It's a different story for Gibbs, though, as they've been averaging only 1.9 per game. Will St. Petersburg continue their march to the end zone, or will Gibbs flip the ?
St. Petersburg couldn't quite finish off Gibbs in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 and fell 20-18. Thankfully for St. Petersburg, Sammy Miller jr. (who rushed for 173 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.2 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
