Manning is 6-1 against Waccamaw since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Manning Monarchs will head out on the road to challenge the Waccamaw Warriors at 7:30 p.m. Manning has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Manning scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They came out on top against Loris by a score of 80-69. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Meanwhile, Waccamaw was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Monday as they fell 57-51 to Dillon. While losing is never fun, Waccamaw can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 202nd, while Dillon is ranked 86th).
Despite their loss, Waccamaw saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Dutch Kerns, who scored 15 points, was perhaps the best of all. It was the first time this season that Kerns scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Connor Hart, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Manning's win bumped their record up to 15-10. As for Waccamaw, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 14 of their last 18 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season.
Manning was able to grind out a solid victory over Waccamaw when the teams last played back in January, winning 58-46. The rematch might be a little tougher for Manning since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
