After a string of three wins, the Catholic Crusaders's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Peninsula Catholic by a score of 52-49. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Catholic has suffered since January 15th.
Despite the loss, Catholic still got an impressive performance from Ashton Walker, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Brayden Thorne, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Peninsula Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Malcolm Velmar, who scored 14 points along with two steals. EJ Joyner was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds.
Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 17-7. As for Peninsula Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.
Catholic will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against the Cadets at 2:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Benedictine will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Peninsula Catholic will take on the Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Woodside knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six games -- so hopefully the Knights like a good challenge.
