The Sapulpa Chieftains and the Claremore Zebras squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Sapulpa Chieftains had to settle for second. Sapulpa was just a hair shy of victory and fell 48-47 to Claremore. Sapulpa's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, Sapulpa still got an impressive performance from Marco Smith, who rushed for 184 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.7 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Colton Howard, who threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns.
Claremore's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gage Deckard, who picked up 141 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Claremore also got help from Hayden Lee who showed off his sure hands for 117 receiving yards.
Sapulpa's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Claremore, their victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1-1.
Sapulpa does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Claremore will face off against Elgin at TBD on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Oklahoma (Elgin is ranked 12th, while Claremore is ranked 29th).
