After two games on the road, Salida is heading back home. They will take on The Pagosa Springs Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Salida and Pagosa Springs are at an even 3-3 over their past six MAXFOOTBALL head to heads.
Last Friday, Salida came up short against Bayfield and fell 27-20.
Despite the defeat, Salida got a solid performance out of Abram Jones, who rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries.
Meanwhile, Pagosa Springs had just enough and edged Montezuma-Cortez out 20-17 on Friday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Pagosa Springs.
Gavin Lindahl went supernova for Pagosa Springs, rushing for 187 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Pagosa Springs also got help from Blake Laner who showed off his sure hands for 90 receiving yards.
Pagosa Springs' win bumped their season record to 4-3 while Salida's loss dropped theirs to 4-4.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Salida has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 166.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Pagosa Springs struggles in that department as they've been even better at 191.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Salida ended up a good deal behind Pagosa Springs when the teams last played back in October of 2022, losing 33-14. Thankfully for Salida, Aaron Aucoin (who rushed for 153 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries, and also threw for 154 yards and three touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
