Cheney extended their winning streak to five on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 5-0 in the process. They blew past the Medicine Lodge Indians 18-2. Fans of the Cardinals have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Lucy Fouquet made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Fouquet was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Macey Batt and Erika Block did most of the damage at the plate: Batt went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Block went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Block is crushing it when it comes to RBI: she's brought in at least three every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Adelle Fouquet, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs.
Cheney kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Medicine Lodge only managed seven hits.
As for Medicine Lodge, they dropped their record down to 4-6 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.
On Medicine Lodge's side, they saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emery Shinliver, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. Adalynn Cope also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Looking ahead, Cheney will take on Douglass at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Cardinals surely won't give up without a fight. As for Medicine Lodge, they will challenge Chaparral at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Roadrunners have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.8 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of.
