After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Valparaiso, the Whiting Oilers were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Calumet New Tech as Whiting made off with a 63-37 victory. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Whiting considering their 22-point performance the game before.
Whiting's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gia-marie Kertis, who scored 12 points. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Quinones, who scored 16 points along with five steals.
Whiting has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-6-1 record this season. As for Calumet New Tech, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whiting will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Lake Station Edison at 9:00 a.m. on December 29th. As for Calumet New Tech, they will head out on the road to face off against Gary West Side at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gary West Side is on a five-game streak of home losses, Calumet New Tech a ten-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change.
